The Honkanummi cemetery was inaugurated in 1956. The name of the cemetery comes from the forest-like appearance of the place. Honkanummi is the largest cemetery in Finland by area. The chapel building, rising on a central location in the area, is worth seeing.

The cemetery is located in Hakkila, Vantaa, approximately 18 kilometres north of the Helsinki city centre. The Vanha Porvoontie road traverses the cemetery, dividing the area into two parts.
